Hot cross bun fudge bites – recipe!

now common, who doesn’t like makin a special treat for friends and family at easter time? And who doesn’t mind licking the spoon when you make something super sweet and delicious? Well I don’t make fudge often, as it is soooooo full of nasty ingredients that will make my thighs even bigger than what they already are… But I’ll make it for my friends, so that I can feel skinny, while they stuff their faces full of it!!! Hahahaha

Delicious Easter Hot Cross Bun Fudge is super easy to make and here’s how.

Ingredients:

1 can condensed milk

100g butter

1 1/4 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons golden syrup

1/4 teaspoon chinese 5 spice

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup sultana

1/4 cup currents

Method:

Mix your butter, sugar, condensed milk and golden syrup in a large glass bowl. Mix it well and place in the microwave for 10minutes on high. Every 2 minutes take it out and stirr it! If you miss this step it will burn and have gritty dried bits when you mix it together.

Mixing below

after your 10 minutes in the microwave add your spices, sultanas and currents. Mix through well.

Finally grease proof a square baking tin, or line it with baking paper if you like. Smooth it as best you can, like below.

Refrigerate it for at least 1 hour and cut into bite sized pieces.

Delicious!

Spiced nectarine slice with coconut oat crumble

2015/01/img_7005.jpg

This is how simple the cooking is in our house! Mix together your own recipe in 10 minutes with what you have in the pantry!! The recipe is very versatile, any plain cake batter you like and add some 5 spice, ground cloves and cinnamon. Poor into a lasagne dish or if you have a long shallow cake tin (something you would cook brownies in) Peel some nectarines and slice them, press them into the batter! Crumble comes after.

But here is my exact recipe, for those who don’t feel confident with making your own batter and crumble.

1 1/2 cup brown sugar
250g butter
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
(Whip these ingredients)
Add
2 cups plain flour
2 cups SR. flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp mixed spice
(Mix all together)
Add
1 cup of lemonade
(Yes I insist lemonade)

Poor into your baking dish.

Peel 8-10 nectarines (depending on size) slice them up. Press them in to your batter – you will get your fingers slightly sticky from the batter.

Cook on 180degree fan forced oven for approx 50minutes.

Now to make your crumble:
1 cup of rolled oats
1 cup of dedicated coconut
40g soft butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
Mix together well.

When cake is cooked, but still slightly soft on top place the crumble over the top. Bake for a further 10minutes.

Paddy’s Lantern – WOW what a statement!

Paddy’s Lantern – Gilbert street Adelaide.

This little tucked away on a busy street cafe, is starting to become a fashion statement in adelaide. It’s fancy tiled bench with quirky interior design, with lots of seating inside and out has already got a strong regular following.

IMG_0810[1]

the food regularly changes to suit whats in season, and they use fresh accessible produce from around adelaide. The staff… WOW the staff are absolutely mind blowingly beautiful. Honest, down to earth, clearly HAPPY to be at work & obviously well looked after. I think i enjoyed the staff’s company more than my own, and wanted to go work behind the counter with them. they are here to make a statement, and that they did!

The picture above is their own take on a waffle. it was not waffle texture, but it was flavoursome. it was almost like a slice of french toast. my daughter absolutely loved it. i’m not sure it would win any awards for being visually “pretty” but it was so delicious, who cares!

IMG_0811[1]

Talk about perfect coffee porn photo right here!! it was beautiful, and made well. I would definitely go back for a good quality coffee.

IMG_0809[1]

then there was this… Although on first impressions of this dish coming out weren’t as great as first thought, it certainly tasted delicious. That potato patty was soooo yum! I think I could have eaten a whole stack of them 😊 Spinach cooked al’dente topped with a fried egg all sitting on a bed of red pepper purée. again not the prettiest of food porn that we have posted. but definitely up there with the best cafe’s in adelaide.

Chocolate, more chocolate & pink sweet treats… can’t go wrong!

If you haven’t discovered heaven on a plate yet, your not going to the right places!

This is Steven Ter Horst Chocolatier on Rundle Street in Adelaide City

Is there nothing better?? sweet treats, in pretty little pink colours and chocolate?? Ah-Mazing designs, textures, and combinations. Every one will find something they like here.

with beautiful interior design, that’s been kept simple with slick black lines and black boards. The wooden table tops, polished cement floors and black industrial stools make this cafe/chocolate shop stand out from all the rest on rundle street.

Everything is perfect, including the blocks of delicious chocolate. My favourite – dark chocolate with sour cherry and pistachios. totally Yumalicious!

L’Atelier Gourmand – Wayville

WOW what an impression! this place blew me away the first time i visited. and then made even more of a statement the next half a dozen times i went and even took the family.

Dan the man, seriously thought the platters were amazeballs because of the variety.

coffee is delicious, smooth and is done by a good barista who knows what they are doing when it comes to heating the milk correctly. nothing worse than burnt over cooked milk.

the Market Shed on Holland

hands up, who’s been?!

If you are free one sunday morning, might i suggest you go for not only the freshest produce around town. But also for the best range on organic produce. by far one of Leia’s favourite places to take the family on a sunday morning. Although not always affordable for a whole family of 5 to eat here – consider it a special treat. It is however very affordable if you are a single or couple and just buying breakfast for your self, not a tribe of 5. It’s also not very convenient to get there and all 5 of you decide you want something different from every one else. Its always SUPER busy and some stands/stalls have longer wait than others (obviously this changes week to week)

Seriously an amazing place to go and meet up with your girlfriends and share a bite to eat and a coffee on a sunday morning.

the yummiest burger breakfast would have to be from Veggie Velo

those mushrooms, that haloumi – it all worked so well, and seriously LOOK AT THE SIZE of that thing!! hard to get your lips around it.

then there was the bacon and egg bagel – by olive and edith $9.50 for a bagel and coffee (pretty good value)

another perfectly cooked breakfast – toastie with bacon & egg combo topped with rocket by Small Batch

The coffee was pretty good from here too! probably the best tasting and temperature coffee in the whole of the market shed (if i dont say so my self

Again i cant stress enough, if you havent been and you live in adelaide – you need to visit on a sunday morning. there is so much to see, and so much to buy or try – you certainly wont be disappointing 🙂

Jack Rubys – Adelaide City

awesome place to visit, if your in the city. if your a traveler or have friends and family coming from overseas and they want to try some Aussie crocodile – this is the place to do it in little ol’ Adelaide. essentially it really looks like “just another burger place” and although it is a burger kingdom, they do them well and execute them well. the atmosphere or ambiance of Jack Rubys is certainly up there with the best places to eat and visit in SA.

here we have Pop Corn Croc Bites –

jackruby1

Some people might say – oh my gawd, you’ve ruined some good croc meat. but i say well done chef for giving Adelaide something more than just a plain old boring crocodile piece of meat on a plate! these were so delicious, i could go back again and again just for them.

this was just entree – of course! here is the main

Soft shell crab soft taco and on the right is a 5 spice duck soft taco

jackruby2

So delicious, of course we had to follow through and have dessert!!

red velvet waffle with chantilly cream and fresh berries

jackruby3

You certainly wont be dissapointed here guys! there is something for every one. try the burgers (although not pictured in this post) they are awesome, and we have been back many times just for a burger. It truly has a great atmosphere and any one could enjoy their night here.

There aint no other FRENCH TOAST like it!

So some people love a sweet breakfast, and others love the traditional bacon and eggs – MATT being MATT, loves everything followed by dessert. YEP even breakky! but we need to point out that no one else does a french toast that even compares to this one… where’s it from i hear you say?

its none other than The Pantry on Egmont.

frenchtoast

seriously how scrumptious does this look? well you wait until you go and try it for your self. it is so far hands down one of the top 3 if not possibly the best french toast in adelaide. There – i said it! you need to get on it guys, and try it for your self.

not only would Matt have dessert, he also managed to squeeze this traditional breakfast in too –

Smashed Avocado with poached eggs

break

of course he is not always a coffee “goo-roo” and proffers a juice or milk shake so here is his in between course –

carrot, apricot and apple juice

juice

Have you ever had a Cronut?

a Cronut you say? whats a Cronut! OMG one of the newest fads here in Adelaide has been discovered by Matt and his 5 stomachs. This Cronut is proudly bought to you by Milkaholic, located at – 61A Edward St, Norwood.

This is a great little joint to go to when wanting a meal followed by an awesome dessert. they have top quality food in both forms – entree, main and dessert!

For some time now we have been on the hunt for the BEST cronut, and although all have been very tasty and enjoyable its not always what they are topped with or stuffed with. it is sometimes coming down to the freshness and how perfectly made it is.

This Cronut is Nutella Chocolate Sauce, with chocolate ice cream and pistachios.

It certainly was divine, but we will still be on the hunt for more cronutes

Sometimes dessert comes 1st…

Meet Matts 2nd stomach! the dessert stomach. We have been here a few times in the past month and just to get our blog up to date with our instagram and facebook accounts we are posting a few visits into the one blog post.

I wont dribble on too much about how fantastic this place is – i’m sure if you visit you will see how the pies can truly blow your mind with flaky-ness! wholly mother of food gods, you have not had a pie until you’ve had a PIE from Butter Fingers.
